  • 1.  NAV10 cleaned USB drive, required reboot, USB no longer connecting to WinXP

I suspect I have missed the run once opportunity to finish a virus clean on a USB drive, the virus clean required a reboot. I did not want my USB drive to assume the boot drive device so I disconnected it during the reboot, plugged it in after reboot, but now it is not recognized by WinXP SP3.   Repeated attempts to reboot with and without the USB drive plugged in all result in USB drive not being recognized by WinXP.   How do I fix this ?

    Using:  NAV 10.0.2..2002, WinXP SP3 w/latest maint.

USB drive no longer appears as a connected device in Device Manager, nor in Disk Management, nor in Explorer

    Hi,

Did you try to scan that USB drive from a different machine?

Do you get any message for unrecognized device or does the same reflect anywhere under USB in the device manager?.

This particular USB HD drive is no longer connecting to any WinXP computer.  The computers do not recognize the USB drive in any config, admin,  or Explorer dialogue.  Not surprisingly then, NAV10 does not recognize it either in its list of drvies available to be scanned.

This problem  occurred after I scanned the USB HD Drive to remove Trojan virus in several files.  I have the scan log if that helps. A few of the virus removal line items mention a reboot is necessary to complete the remove.  I rebooted the computer without the USB drive connected, for fear it would assume the boot drive.  I used bios to disable USB from boot startup sequence,  then rebooted a second time with the USB drive connected.  I did notice an AV screen during boot which appeared to be the finish process, however the USB Drive has not worked since.  The AV scan/clean seems to have left the drive in a state that does not allow it to connect to WinXP or be recognized in any way.

problem solved.  The USB drive worked on a third computer, and I was able to complete the virus clean.
