NBU 7.1.0.2 and IBM 3584 cannot see new tapes !?

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Got an IBM3584 upgraded to support LTO5's (fw B170) - and using IBM's 6.2.1.5 driver in Win2008.

Was working fine before upgrade. After drive and firmware upgrade of the robot we cannot see new tapes added (LTO5's).

But if we remove an old (LTO3) and does inventory, NBU moves this tape from slot 116 to standalone, as it should.

But putting back the LTO3 tape into same robot-slot, and doing robot inventory + NBU inventory, Robot/NBU doesn't recognize the tape to be back in the library. - Anyone seen this behaviour before?

I have seen this when drives

I have seen this when drives have been changed and the old ones were not removed from the library config first (the library itself - not netbackup)
It causes the library partitions to not work correctly or only have a couple of slots in the partitions
Check the library interface or web GUI to see what is going on
Get the engineer back if you have to
Hope this helps

Couple of stupid

Couple of stupid questions...

Have you installed the latest device mappings for netbackup 7.1.0.2 ? Have had to install new device mappings to get a TS2900 robot/LTO3 tape drive recogonized

Checked in the web interface if the IBM 3584 robot finds the tape that is put back in ?

What does the robtest command s s <slot> show ?

I would also like to see what

I would also like to see what the robot itself reports -

Please use robtest as per Michael's suggestion.

I'm also curious to see output of "Compare contents with volume configuration"

Yo can do it from cmd and send output to a file:

<install-path>\veritas\volmgr\bin\vmcheckxxx -rn robot-number -rt tld  > c:\temp\inv.txt

Suspects the robot

Have just run a successfully HotCatalog, - after physically moving a LTO5 tape to the slot NBU/robot claimed it to be (was in another slot). So they communicate in a way... but looks like the robots' "slot-mapping" from like "F4 C5 R1" doesn't match with what NBU expects, (like slot 116). Adding further tapes, inventory.. the robot inserts the tapes in vacant slots, but doesn't report correct (mapped) what tapes went where. And reports Library FULL...! (I suspect the robot have gone bananas) - The on-box-robot-GUI (not web) thinks everything is fine.  - Have called for the IBM-dude... he stills claims it's OK. (Robtest I'm sure moves correct between slots and drives. (My HotCatalog backup to lto5 went ok.))

After all of your changes did

After all of your changes did you re-run the device wizard?

This not only adds the serial numbers and paths but also the slot information for the robotics.

May be worth running it again to see if it sorts things out

Then... we are OK again.

Got a Non-IBM tapelibrary-technician onsite, he reconfigured/updated something in the library.. and now everything looks great.

Glad to hear it was NOT

Glad to hear it was NOT NetBackup's fault!

Pretty much knew that - that's why we asked you to test with robtest....
