On the client ajvadc02 make sure there is an SERVER entry for the media server.

host properties > clients > servers

Add the name of the media server, and make sure the client can fully resolve the media servers name, both forwards and reverse lookups.

Ensure the media server can fully resolve the hostname of the client.

Also check for any firewalls ...

Confirm that the following services are running on the client:

NetBackup Client Service

NetBackup Legacy Client Service

NetBackup Legacy Network Service

Symantec Private Branch Exchange

Your 'logs' do not show any name lookup from client's side?

Do 'bpclntcmd -hn <server-hostname>' as well as 'bpclntcmd -ip <server-IP>' on the client.

When name lookup looks good from client's side, test connectivity as follows:

1. Create bpcd log folder on client.

2. Run this command on server:
bptestbpcd -client <client-name> -verbose -debug.

If connection still fails, please post output of command as well as client's bpcd log.

If no log file is created in client's bpcd log folder, ensure client's Windows firewall is turned off and disabled.
Also verify if server or client is in DMZ. If so, ensure port 1556 is open in both directions.

PS: Why do you have SERVER entry for client ajvadc02 in master's bp.conf?
You need SERVER entry on client for the Master.

HI Martin and Marrianie,

The backups are running now the firewall has been disabled on Client and now this can be able to connect.

What should i do to run the backups when the firewall is enabled.

Thanks & Regards,

Vamsi Krishna

As per my post above - comms on port 1556 is needed. You need to allow Private Branch Exchange.

PS: why do you need Windows Firewall if your servers are protected by your company's external firewall?
