You might want to speak to Symantec Marketing/Sales

& see if they'll tell you (it must be secret as there does not appear to be much available on the web).

I did manage to Google an old pdf document (from 2004 - I did say it was old!) which stated "This confidential document is intended to aid VERITAS personnel and partners in the sale of the VERITAS NetBackup™ and VERITAS Bare Metal Restore™ product lines"

It indicated at the end that UNIX tiers were based upon the model (e.g. Tier 1 being such things as V880 through to Tier 4 being an E10K) and Windows & Linux tiers were based upon the number of processors (Tier 1 - 1CPU, Tier 2 - 2 or 3 CPUs, Tier 3 - 4 to 7 CPUs & Tier 4 - 8 or more CPUs). NDMP tiering was also hardware based & database agents were based upon the hardware tier.

Regards Andy

Claudio, The tier structure

Claudio,

The tier structure is based upon the number of "physical" processors - not cores.  Our media servers are 2 processor / quad core.  This comes under a tier 2 license.

Tiering for unix boxes depends on server

and processor type along with number of processors. Unfortunately, the excel spreadsheet with tiers is limited to SYMC/partners
