NDMP restore failed from path UNKNOWN??

Created: 11 Sep 2012 | 4 comments

Hello,

I have version 6.5 and backing up an EMC NAS with NDMP. Client Name in Policy is pysnasit with hardware and OS as NDMP. The backup selection is /finance_Backup. I try the restore where the files are located with source and destination as pysnasit and policy type NDMP. The actual locations of the files are \\pysnas01\finance\DIALOGIC\Revenue\Revenue Actuals\2012 . When i try to restore back to original location i get

14:35:17 (148314.001) Restoring from image created 8/11/2012 1:49:59 PM
14:35:18 (148314.001) terminated by parent process
14:35:18 (148314.001) Status of restore from image created 8/11/2012 1:49:59 PM = client/server handshaking failed

14:35:18 (148314.001) NDMP restore failed from path UNKNOWN
14:35:21 (148314.xxx) INF - Status = the restore failed to recover the requested files.

Even if i try other options as locations that i know are valid. Suggestions?

thanks

Im not familiar with EMC nas but I would hazard a guess that if the backup path is /finance....blah , then the restore path will also need to be pathed with actual nas path ie forward slashes and not the unc path \\server\... ie you seem to be mixing up different path contexts.

I'm experiencing the same problem and we are investigating if we get a resolution I'll post it.

I am not sure about EMC as well but we backup Netapp filers and can restore back to the original path ie..

unc path: \\hscfs1\hscgroups\Groups\a

backup path: /vol/hsc_vol1/hscgroups/

restore path: /vol/hsc_vol1/hscgroups/Groups/
