  • 1.  Necessary to Install Unmanaged SEP SBE Client in Default Location?

We are going to install an unmanaged SEP Small Business Edition client on a server running Windows Small Business Server 2003 for its operating system. Normally we install software on the C (system) partition of the server drive. However, there is not a lot of space left on that partition (6 GB out of a total of 16 GB, and we already have the partition compressed). The server also has an E (data) partition that has more open space on it. Can the SEP Small Business unmanaged client be installed on the E partition? Do you recommend this? If so, are there any guidelines we should follow in using a non-standard installation directory for the SEP SBE unmanaged client on this server?

Also, we will be installing the SEP client from the "Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_SBE_12.1.4_Win32-bit_Client_EN.exe" file that we downloaded from the Symantec Connect web site. Are there written installation instructions available for installing the unmanaged client from this file?

Thanks for your help with these questions.

You can install SEP to another drive but virus defs will always install to C:, it's hard coded and cannot be changed

    See here:

What files from Symantec Endpoint Protection installation are installed to the C:\ Drive, when the application is installed to a different drive

I don't believe there are instructions, just run the setup.exe file and it walk you thru the install.

You can install it on a different drive, no issues it would work just fine

Follow this document for installing Umanaged clients

on a personal note I would suggest to install only Antivirus and Antispyware to start with, Do not install Network threat protection ( Firewall component) it  might cause some issues if not configured in the right way.
