This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello

I am currently working on PST migration to enterrpise vault. Multiple files have been failing migration and it seems splitting them into smaller size fixes that issue.

Anyone knows a good & reliable PST splitter tool please? To achieve above.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any free and effective tools, but I have known people to use http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/pst-split.html with no complaints.

Are you doing client or server side PST migrations ?
If server-side, what is your Outlook version and what is the outlook version of the PST files (are they created with Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010 ?) Make sure to install available patches of Outlook on the EV server.

Currently we're using Outlook 2007 SP2 on EV servers along with hotfix for multiple threads.

I can upgrade it to SP3, will it help with issue where we've to break down the PST files?

Thank You

It's worth trying.

SP3 is listed in the SCL: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH38537

For Exchange 2010 Outllook 2007 with SP3 is recommended.

Have you considered using 3rd party products like QUADROtech's PST FlightDeck?  In many ways trying to troubleshoot why failures are occuring takes longer than choosing a different tactic.

I did propose it to the "upper" guys who manage $$ but they didnt buy that options because of additional cost associated around it.

I've heard that Flightdeck is cool & streamlined way to import PSTs into EV, but just my bad that I cannot use it. :S

You can go for the inbuilt pst2gb.exe tool powered by Microsoft. Though the tool is effective enough it involves risk of data loss. Therefore if you do not want to get into such issues then it is strickly suggested to use a commercial PST Splitter Tool. Since Stellar is one of the most well known brand therefore you can look for Stellar PST Splitter Tool available in market.http://www.pstsplitter.com

Well the Microsoft one says :

The utility truncates the .pst file to under 2 GB. To have enough working space, truncate the file between 20 to 25 megabytes (MB) less than the 2 GB limit. The truncated data is removed from the new copy, which means some messages are missing from the recovered copy.

And to be honest PSTSplitter.com is light on the details (from what I can see) of exactly WHAT it does.

I agree

Below tools came up as recommendations overall, hopefully they'll help someone:

1. Kernel PST File Splitter: http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/pst-split.html

2. Stellar Phoenix PST File Splitter: http://www.stellarinfo.com/split-pst-file.htm

I couldn't get to use either of those - The "$$" guys rule. :S.

Thanks again to all for activa participation.

Thank You
