This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have found to chnage the default location for disk group configuration file backup (defualt /etc/vx/cbr) require configuration file under cbr "bk_config"

But I did not found in our mulitple servers .

So is there any other way to change this or how can we create new bk_config  for the server .?

Can we copy from other servers which they have this file ?

Can we restart the vxconfigd daemon on production server  (running server ) ?

Please let us know the solution .

OS --RHEL

VXVM --5.1

thanks in advance !!

Hi, config directory can be changed using below command

/etc/vx/bin/vxconfigbackup [-f] [-l directory] [[dgname ...] | [dgid ...]]

I would recommend not to copy from other server unless DGs are shared DGs & used in cluster or deported/imported between nodes.

If CVM is in use, do not restart vxconfigd as it may generate failures in cluster. If it is a standalone server, you can restart vxconfigd without impacting running volumes however till the time vxocnfigd is restarting, you won't be able to make any changes to vx configuration

thanks for support ..

/etc/vx/bin/vxconfigbackup [-f] [-l directory] [[dgname ...] | [dgid ...]]

Is this permanent change , menas after reboot also it will active ?

I need permannet change .

As per my understanding only we need to start the "vxconfigbackupd" daemon not "vxconfigd"

Please check again . if i can restart the vxconfigbackupd daemon on running server .

My server is part of cluster and I am moving on on server but on other filesystems because my root fs not have the enough space available now .

Please check

Hi,

though it is not documented in man pages but I would say the change is permanent. You can put this command in startup scripts to be on safer side so that every time server boots, the backup directory is changed to the mentioned location.

In your original post, you have asked question about restarting vxconfigd so I answered about that.

vxconfigbackpud can be restarted any time without any impact to running servers regardless whether server is in cluster or not.
