Need Ghostcast Server Help

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi all,

My GhostCast server no longer functions since it crashed the first time. The first time it crashed it was partway through imaging 10 machines, now it won't even do 2. I click send and the time elapsed just freezes. Sometimes it can do 1, but that seems rare. I've bounced the server that ghost is on, and the router that the computer are plugged into, both with no luck.

Any ideas, or suggestions on where I can start?

Thanks

Another thing I've noticed

Another thing I've noticed now is that if I do 2 machines, it will freeze for about 3 minutes, time not even elapsing, then one machine will drop, and the other crawls at say...27 mb/min. Usually it flies at about 600 and the elapsed time freezes again.

Can you elaborate on "crash?"

Can you elaborate on "crash?" What crashed, you session? windows? was it hardware?

***Taking a blind guess *** You probably have some networking issues w/ multicast sessions. To test this try to image 1x PC and check the boxes to force a unicast. Let us know how that goes. If it still sucks we should look elsewhere.

Multicasting doesn't play

Multicasting doesn't play nice with my network and VOIP phones so I've been unicasting specifically.

By crash I mean that the time elapsed froze and the entire screen stopped working and my terminal connection dropped. While the VM was still technically working, it was no longer responding to anything and the images weren't going out.

For unicasting single machines now it seems like 1 in 5 attempts is successfull, however at 100% it doesn't reboot it just sits there. Exiting out by power cycling or ctrl alt del works and the machine boots.

So this all started when I attempted to unicast 10 machines.

Virtual machines

CameronR,

The use of the Ghostcast Server and Ghost Console are not recommended from virtual machines, though in most cases, should work. I would recommend trying the same operation from a physical machine (even a Windows XP box) to determine whether the issue is specific to a virtual environment. Additionally, the following article has a recommendation for the driver settings if the server is an ESX server:

Ghost Console tasks fail without error when being ran from virtual machine.

I hope that helps!

It seems like it's recovered

It seems like it's recovered overnight. A few hiccups this morning, but now its back to imaging. Guess I know its limit now.

I will update that driver as the document says though, thanks!

Excellent! I'm glad that is

Excellent! I'm glad that is working for you! We often see an upper limit on the number ofmachines that can be deployed via unicast in a single session, typically around 8-20, depending upon the network.

Anyway, make sure to mark the thread as resolved.

Thank you!
