I purchased GSS 1.1 in October last year. We had some delays and I just installed last week. I managed to backup 4 servers, but there are another 4 which I could not backup.

I'm using the console to image the remote servers. When the client (the server being imaged) boots into dos and ghost starts, the imaging process hangs pretty soon after. Nothing happens after that. I can see a .gho file in the save location, but it never gets beyond a few MB in size.

After reading on these forums and the web, I have narrowed down the problems to a few potential issues.

    1. The servers have multiple NICs (the thread at http://forums.symantec.com/discussions/thread.jspa?threadID=72020 doesn't seem to be complete. Last comment was that it should be working in GSS 2.0, but no confirmation)
    2. The HDDs are configured in RAID 5 array (not sure if this is an issue)
    3. The servers in question are HP DL385. Will look at the thread at http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?messageID=4451729 after previous issues ruled out

From the information given above, is it worth upgrading to GSS 2.0. Especially I'm thinking about 1 in the list. I would obviously like to save myself the cost if it won't help.

How did the process go wrong for you? Just because GSS2 is out doesn't mean that we aren't interested in hearing about and investigating problems that 1.1 users have, and perhaps by working out what's different about the ones that worked and the ones that didn't we may be able to identify a workaround.

The user who reported trouble at the end of the thread unfortunately never got in touch, so I never got to do any investigation into his problem (in particular to see if it might have been connected to the duplicate SMBIOS UUID issue in the Dell GX270's or something else). Thus far, that's the only report I'm aware of from a user with trouble with multiple client NICs; the problem is that users without problems don't just drop into this forum to tell us how everything is just peachy, so it's hard to put that lone data point into context.

OK, I'm a dunce and between reading the threads you referenced, somehow I lost track of the paragraph where you explained that Ghost just hangs. My bad, somehow my short-term memory lets me down.

If you get in touch via email we can dig into the why; often, a lot of these problems are due to things like IRQ conflicts, and we have some diagnostic tools that we developed during the GSS2 project that may shed some light on whether that's the case for your hardware.
