Need help getting Backup Exec to see NAS
Created: 25 Jan 2010 | Updated: 28 Jul 2010 | 3 comments
How do I set up a share on my NAS to create a B2D folder? I am using an enterprise NAS running a linux OS, and want to use the NAS with consolidated backup and backup exec. I can't get Backup exec to see my NAS and add it as a storage location. What do I need to do in order to get this to work?
Thanks
Aaron

Hello,
Please check this KB:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/237737
Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliance compatibility with Backup Exec 9.x, 10.x, 11.x, and 12.x (NON NDMP)
For more detail on requirements backup to disk folder, see the Admin Guide for Backup Exec page 219
http://support.veritas.com/docs/308400
hope this helps...
Its a best practice to have a "Support Contract" with Symantec...
Also make sure to run the b2dtest.exe file against your NAS to make sure Symantec will help you if problems arise.
Search the support KB's for it. It'll test your NAS to make sure that backups to disk will work, that GRT will function as best as it can determine. If passed, Symantec will give you a best faith effort on support.
There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."
Thanks, where is the b2dtest.exe found? Is it part of the backup exec download? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I'm not sitting in front of the computer at work that runs my backup solution.
