I have downloaded the SIM and the Symantec Install Package.  After I unzipped the Symantec Install Package and I have the folder called Altiris and 2 subfolders inside called Components & Licenses. I am trying to install the Altiris asset management where I am encountering the problem.

I double click on the altiris_assetmanagement_7_1_sp2_x64 and it will give me the error message of "The MSI must be run by the installer framework.  Please rerun using the installer framework". When I tried to double click on the Symantecinstallationmanagers.setup, it will lead me back to download the component and package again.

I need an assistance on what should I do for the next step.

Thanks.

You need to install Asset Management Suite from Symantec Installation Manager (SIM).

When you run SIM the option to create an Install Package is if you want to install AMS on a server with no internet access. If the server you have installed SIM on has internet access you can use the "Install New Products" option, then select Asset Management Suite. If you don't see it listed you may need to cahnge the drop down boxes at the top of the list of products to install.

If the server you want to install AMS on does not ahve an internet connection, once you have run the Symantec install package you still need to install and run SIM, it should then have the install packages cached.

If the option to install new products is greyed out it's usually because you aer running SIM on a machine that doesn't support installing Altiris 7.1. It has to be R2 of Windows Server 2008.

See the screen below for clarification (steps that you have to take in Symantec Installation Manager):

Also, you can check the "Managing the installation of the Symantec Management Platform products" knowledge base article that lists all steps you have to accomplish to install any of the Symantec Management products (http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO54452).

For more information, you can read the IT Management Suite Planning and Implementation Guide at the following URL: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC4827

I have successfully installed the AMS on the server.  I have also downloaded the barcode essential on my iphone device but not sure how to sync the barcode information to the AMS.  Can anyone please help?

With installation manager be sure you have Barcode Solution installed along with AMS. Bottom line, no Barcode Solution, no way for Barcode Essentials to connect to the Symantec Server. Barcode Essentials connects via Barcode Solution.

Once you have Symantec Barcode Solution in place I'd definitely watch this first video we put together on making sense of basic server setup required to run Barcode Essentials. We keep it pretty simple but I think you should be able to make some progress here.

Video is here on Connect:

I also recommend to read the "Setting up Barcode Solution" article in Symantec Knowledgebase, at the following URL:
