    Is the database service running?

If you are running the embemded database (default) the service is called Symantec Embemded Database.

    Hi,

Repair the install of the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager in Add or Remove Programs

    1. Open the Control Panel
    2. Open Add or Remove Programs
    3. Highlight Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and click the Change button
    4. Click Next
    5. Select Repair
    6. Click Next
    7. Click Install
    8. Click Finish

Even after that if service stopped attach catalina.out file. Path : <Directory>\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\logs

Make sure no other application is using the ports you setup to be used by SEPM.

  • 16.  RE: Need Help reguarding SEPM logon

    Posted May 03, 2011 09:40 AM

    Hi,

    Go Start - Run - type services.msc

Look if you can find a service called Symantec Embemded Database, if yes you are using the embemded database if not you might be using SQL.

  • 17.  RE: Need Help reguarding SEPM logon

    Posted May 03, 2011 09:41 AM

how can i make sure that its not being used by the other applications?

in the IIS the symantec website is using 8014 port

  • 18.  RE: Need Help reguarding SEPM logon

i have done it now it is aking me to re configure the managment server or install an aditional site... what shal i do? as i am using XP is it ok if i use SQL data base instead of  embemded database?

  • 19.  RE: Need Help reguarding SEPM logon

    Posted May 03, 2011 09:49 AM

Start - Run - type cmd - hit ok

    navigate to c:\

    Type

    netstat -anob > connections.txt

That should create the file connections.txt under c:\

Check the file to see if any other application is using the port 8014.

    Hi,

Select first opetion, configure the management server.

If you have already installed SEPM then you have to be confident which database you are using.

  • 21.  RE: Need Help reguarding SEPM logon

    Posted May 03, 2011 09:57 AM

    nothing is using that port.

by the way shall i use embedded database or SQL?

  • 22.  RE: Need Help reguarding SEPM logon

    Posted May 03, 2011 09:59 AM

well last time i installed the embedded database but now i have seen that it is upto 5000 user clients and XP only support 10. so wat is ur suggesstion ?

    Hi,

Let me know how many clients do you have in your network ?

XP supports 10 concurrent session. but it can support both the database i.e Embedded and SQL.

Every database has it's own limitation to support number of clients.

Embedded support up to 5000 clients while SQL support  5000+.

    Hi,

    Attach catalina.out file. Path : <Directory>\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\logs

How to check services are running or not on XP machines.

    Go to Start --> Run --> (type)Services.msc

Check Symantec embeeded database and Symantec end point protection services are running or not .

    Try to restart as well.

Check in the task manager if you see any processes like dbsrv9.exe, If you do then kill the same and then try to start the Embedded database services.

    enable the logging to finest

Add the line "scm.log.loglevel=finest" (no quotes) to the bottom of the following file:

    C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc\conf.properties

    Save the file and close

Try attempting to start service and if it stops pass on the scm-server-0.log.

Delete all Symantec folders and try to reinstall SEPM.

If SEP client is installed on that machine then you can't delete all Symantec folders.
