Need information regarding the Maintenance License installed in Backup Exec 2012

Hi All,
Greetings!!!
I have Backup Exec 2012 installed on one of our servers. I happened to see the license screen and found that the Maintenance License has the end date of 24th January. Can someone please explain what the maintenance license is for ?It would be of great help.

The Maintenance license is your purchased support for the product/feature. Additionally the M.L. will allow you to upgrade to newer versions at no cost. Its expiration will not affect the funtion of the core product or feature. The expiration date is to serve as a reminder for renewal. below is a little info on Maintenance contract info
