In SEP 12.1 EE after grace period expiry you & your partner will receive notifications about same but you will receive updates from Symantec.

In SEP 12.1 SBE after grace period expiry you & your partner will get notification about same &  you will NOT receive any updates from Symantec all sources.

When the license goes out of compliance the Symantec Endpoint Protection product goes into enforcement mode. There are two types of enforcement

    1)  Hard Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition

    • Content update downloads stop for both server and clients. In Small Business Edition it's 1:1 mapping with CAT server.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

    2)  Soft Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition

    •  Content update downloads continue from all the sources.
    •  UI changes and log notifications are started

    tl;dr:

With the Enterprise edition, updates will continue. With the SBE edition, updates will stop.

    Which do you have?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

    Q. Need to know can SEPM 12.1.5 and its clients, will get virus definition updates even after the license get expired?

--> If it's Enterprise Edition updates will continue to work, if it's Small Business Edition updates will be blocked from all the sources.

To folllow the compliance process renew the license immediately if it's expired.

If using enterprise then updates will not stop even if license expires.

Once end of life hits then yes, updates may stop.

    Thanks brain,

Just a simple question, How come updates will continue, then what is use of license?

U know recently i spoke with Symantec support about the same but, they said we will not get updates anymore once the license get expired.

I am still confused with this...

With the Enterprise edition, updates do not stop when the license expires.

With the SBE edition, updates will stop when the license expires.

Don't be confused, There are two types of enforcement only.

    Types of enforcement

When the license goes out of compliance the Symantec Endpoint Protection product goes into enforcement mode. There are two types of enforcement

    1)  Hard Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition

    • Content update downloads stop for both server and clients. In Small Business Edition it's 1:1 mapping with CAT server.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

    2)  Soft Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition

    •  Content update downloads continue from all the sources.
    •  UI changes and log notifications are started.

It's simple to understand, For Enterprise Edition clients will receive updates though license is expired. We belive in our customers and you should contact partners/reseller & notifications are also sent time to time to renew the license.

For Small Business Editions only clients will stop receving updates once the grace period is over.
