Was asked to look at the Symantec Management Console v 7.6 to see if it can be used to provide patching for third party applications. I am completely unfamiliar with the Altiris console and it's usage, and the person installing it did so by following a guide (i.e. - he doesn't know a whole lot more than I do at this point). What I am hoping ot find is a quick and dirty overview of how the console can be used to download and push patches, if there is a best practice guide for this, and online videos which may be helpful, etc. I've managed to stumble around the console a little bit and downloaded an update for Firefox which is deployed on one of the systems in our lab, but I cannot seem to get it to distribute the package correctly. Any assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I started from scratch a few years ago. The tutorials then were non existent. they are not much better now. I still dont understand why they dont show people who are new to this how to use the software properly, the documentation is useless and always has been.

Have you had any luck? There are some good videos here also https://vimeo.com/4154620 If you Google Altiris and ITS Partners you will find a bit of information and please feel free to post all of your questions back here also. A lot of us are old Altiris pros that love to help! Paul
