This issue has been solved. See solution.

The server that SEPM is running on is being moved to a different primary purpose, but will still be running SEPM.  We're going to re-name the server to reflect it's new purpose.  Once we do, I'm guessing SEP clients won't be able to find the SEPM if they look by name.  Is there an easy way to change the name of SEPM and propogate it out, or am I best off to remove SEPM, reinstall it, and copy the new sylink out to all of the clients?

Hi

My suggestion would be to add your new SEPM name and ip address under MSL prioriity list.
once clients get this list, you can then rename your SEPM.. clients should be able to communicate.

How do I move Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from one server to another with a different IP address and host name?

check this discussion for adding management server list.

 In the Management server

In the Management server List by default contains both Name and IP address..you can confirm it by either editing Management server list ( MSL) or Opening sylink.xml in notepad.

If both are listed then no need to worry just rename and reboot the server.

However if both are not listed over there then Add a new MSL where add both the Names and IP address and assign it to all the groups.
This will be propogated to Sylink.xml on all the clients then you can rename your SEPM server without doing anything.

If I do rename the server and

If I do rename the server and the clients still communicate with it by IP, can I then go in and change the MSL to show the new server name instead of the old?

Rafeeq has the right idea. I

Rafeeq has the right idea. I would have done it that way but our network guys decided to change the IP address of our SEPM before telling me about it so I've been having fun with it for a while now.
