This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello folks,

My company wish to backup files/folders which are created/updated during the course of the working day.  I.E, if someone creates a file at 10am, and deletes it at say 3pm (before the evening backup runs) we are able to restore it for them.

A disk backup is the way to go (I think), however.  Are there any specialised solutions for this type of thing?  Also, what about load on the file server, LAN etc?

We are backing up about 30G (so not a lot).

We are using Backup Exec 12.5 for our daily backups (which take place in the evening).

Thanks a lot.

You can use Continious Protection Server (need extra disk space).

If your amount of data is small and the backup time is short you can backup it up more than once per day.

Is that a product?  Or part of 12.x?  Can you link me?

Thank you.

It is included in the base product, but it is a separate install.  If you licensed it on-line, you can go there and download it. If not, you can go license it here:

https://licensing.symantec.com

Here is the documentation for CPS for version 12. There does not seem to be one specific to 12.5 yet.

I'm not sure what planet the support people at Symantec are on.  First of all none of them talk English (I asked the guy nicely to let me talk to an English person), I had to repeat my name 5 times (my name has 4 letters in it LOL)!!!  When I did get put through, no one was able to answer my question about CPS (like why isn't available on FileConnect).

Managed to find CPS in the end.  It's a bit backwards but if you log in to the Symantec site and enter FileConnect downloads it's not listed.  If you visit the specific FileConnect downloads page it is listed (using the same login details as before)...

Oh well happy days, now just have spec a server for it. :)
