This issue has been solved. See solution.

Master Server : Netbackup 7.0.1

Media Server : Netbackup 7.0.1

Client : 7.0.1 (Windows 2003)

Os : Windows 2003

OpenStorage Datadomain

I need to implement the deduplication (client and media server). Can anyone help me to understand the step by step how to do that.

I have already created datadomain as an openstorage with Storage server. Also configured disk pool and Storage Unit with corresponding disk pool.

Now please let me know what i have to do to enable the deduplication.

DataDomain does target based deduplication. Nothing is done from NBU side - you simply run backups to the DD storage unit.

That is when you use NetBackup built-in Media Server deduplication or a NetBackup appliance.

Data Domain is what we call a 'third-party' dedupe appliance, doing 'target based' deduplication.

You can download DD documentation (manuals and whitepapers) e.g. this one that describes support for latest NBU 7.5 features:

NBU dedupe is explained in this NBU 7.0 FAQ:  http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/other_resources/b-netbackup_7_faq.pdf
