Hello,

I have SEPM 12.1.2 at windows server 2003 and need to install the latest version of SEPM 12.1.3 at windows server 2008, so i will backup the database of the current SEPM and after clean installation of windows 2008 and install new SEPM, I will restore the DB to the new version.

Is these steps are right or not?

12.1.4 is the latest version available 

upgrade current sepm to 12.1.4

take backup and follow all the steps in disaster recovery

upgrade OS

reisntall 12.1.4, put back the DB.

If the new SEPM server has a different IP and host name, there are two alternatives:

1. Use replication to install a new SEPM and keep the policy the same with old SEPM. See "How to move Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from one machine to another"

OR

Install a new fresh SEPM, then use the Sylink.xml file to establish the communication between new SEPM and the existing SEP clients with the help of Sylink replacer tool.

12.1.4 is the latest version, not 12.1.3

should i upgrade the current SEPM to 12.1.4 first and backup the DB or backup the DB of 12.1.2 and restore it after install clean version of SEPM 12.1.4?

Yes, that is possible if hostname & ip address reamins the same.

Backup the DB first than do the upgrade.

1. Upgrade the SEPM 12.1.2 on the existing 2k3 server to SEP 12.1.4, then move the installation to the new 2k8 server by performing a disaster recovery.
