NetBackup 5220 appliance question
Created: 25 Feb 2013 | 3 comments
Hi everyone. Just wanted to ask if anyone has more information on host bus adapter support for the NetBackup 5220 appliance. Specifically, I'm validating if the appliance supports this:
QLogic 8GB PCI-E quad port fibre channel HBA
In the "Symantec NetBackup 5220 Appliance and Symantec Storage Shelf Product Description" Release 2.5 document, this HBA is mentioned but no further information is provided.
Appreciate anyone who can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

At this time the appliance supports only the 2 port HBA. Do not know why the document mentions the quad port but as you pointed out it does. I would suggest a call to Symantec. If you happen to be considerig it DO NOT put your own hardware into this appliance.
The above comments are not to be construed as an official stance of the company I work for; hell half the time they are not even an official stance for me.
Only the HBAs purchased from and supplied by Symantec will be supported in an appliance
If you try putting your own card into one it would not load its drivers automatically and you would invalidate your support / warranty of the appliance
If you need different cards / extra cards speak to Symantec to get them (if available)
Hope this helps

I just got verification from Symantec that there is no quad port HBA available nor will there be in the near future. They are correcting the document and will publish the updated document shortly.
