This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

I'm using Netbackup 7.0.1 and I cannot backup "\System Volume Information\SRM\quota.md" recently.

The result show Status "1":

can't open file:\System Volume Information\SRM\quota.md (WIN32 32: The
process cannot access the file because it is being used by
                    another process. )

How can I solve it?

Many thanks.

What is OS on client?

Can you confirm that VSS is used for WOFB?
What is status of VSS?

Will there ever be a need to restore System Volume Information?

If not, add it to Exclude List.

Hello Marianne,

My client OS is Windows 2003.

I have enabled WOFB and confirmed to chhose VSS Provider

I have run the VSSadmin list writers and there is no error reported.

Since this "quota.md" related to quota management in File Resources Server Management, I think it need to back it up, otherwise, my file server will lose all the quota configuration once the restoration.

Thanks.

Can you use Windows backup to backup Shadow Copy Components to disk?

I have found this very interesting blog: http://www.spaskaloferov.com/blog/?p=122

It was written for W2008, so, I'm not sure if it is the same in W2003...
It lists the various VSS writers and their roles and responsibilities.
<FILE_LIST path=”C:\System Volume Information\SRM\” filespec=”quota.md”> is listed under
FSRM Writer (File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) Writer)

You may want to check if latest Microsoft VSS hotfix has been installed on this system?

Hi Marianne,

Thanks for your information.

I haven't tried to use NT backup to backup to disk.

I searched from Google that "quota.md" is the file storing server disk quota and related to "File Server Resource Manager". So I don't want to skip it.

Can you show me how to check if I have installed the latest Microsoft VSS hotfix?

Thanks.

Hotfixes are listed in 'systeminfo' output.

I believe this is one of the newest VSS hotfixes : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349

(Disclaimer - I am no Microsoft expert... just have to troubleshoot way too many MS issues because they're causing NBU failures...)

Hi Marianne,

I cannot see the hotfixes mentioned the problem I encountered. However, based on your experience, you think it is related to the VSS issues from Mircosoft, right?

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that ... my media server is using Netbackup 7.0.1 while my client is using Netbackup 6.0.
