This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

I'm am trying to kill of a BEX 11d system. The last client not yet on our Netbackup 7.01 is an Exchange server.

I'm trying to determine if:

Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003 x32 R1 is a supported client for Netbackup 7.01.

The following Compatibility List  (page 15) does not specifically mention this config

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/resources/sites/BUSINESS/content/live/TECHNICAL_SOLUTION/126000/TECH126904/en_US/nbu_7x_DB_Agents_scl_2011_03_21.pdf

Windows 2003 x32 R2 is mentioned but not Windows 2003 x32 R1.

Must I must do an in-place upgrade of the Exchange server to R2 to gain support?
Do I have any other options? (Exchange 2010 is in-flight but will not deliver to that site this year)

Any thoughts, experiences appreciated. thx Rich.

Highly recommended to upgrade to R2

Hi Rich,

You need to apply R2. Upgrading to R2 is relatively a simple procedure. R1 too old for NetBackup 7 testing.

You will also get to use GRT (granular recovery technology, the ability to restore mailboxes from database backups) once you move to Windows 2003 R2 and Exchange 2003 SP1.

R2 then

Thanks for the clarity Abdul,

My understanding is that:

R2 x32 is the minimum supported level in this scenario, as R1 x32 has not been tested by Symantec.

If we choose to deploy 'as is' it may technically work but we would loose support.

thx, Rich.
