NetBackup 7.5.0.3 upgrade - slow backup for SAN disks

Created: 05 Sep 2012 | 1 comment

Hello,

We've just upgraded one of our solutions to NetBackup 7.5.0.3 and since have had slow throughput on backups for servers that have SAN attached drives (does not appear to affect local disks).   I've adjusted the buffers, patched the clients to the same version and performed all sorts of checks but cant figure where to look next...

Can anyone make a suggestion please?

Master with 5x media servers four of them having disk staging areas (all 2003 media servers have been upgraded to 7.5.0.3, the 2008 media server is 7.5).

When you say performed all sorts of checks, have you checked SAN disk performance outside of NetBackup, such as doing direct I/O operations to those drives, to see if they have expected performance? (esp as you say local disks don't have the issue).

Can't assume, so: do you manage the SAN? If not (or even if so) absolutely sure no changes occured at that layer around the same time? (either way should show a performance issue outside of NBU normally)
