I think Symantec introduced new exams this week. I'm planning to take 250-365 this week. Check Symantec certification site first.

Keep working with the product; you will learn far more form experiance then you will from a test.
test = money for symantec
cert = as good a screen door for a submarine
I have been worknig with Netbackup for man years more thatn 10 and I have hired many admins for netbackup and if they can talk about the application and be logical as well a practical then they would get the job over the Paper Admin
Just MO

Yes, I agree, practical knowledge is much better than paper knowledge. But by taking exam you prove to yourself that you know technical information abut the product and can apply that knowledge in a real world...
I don't understand why so many managers or senior level engineers do not like certifications these days? If it seems so easy why they do not take exam by themselves.. :D Too scary? :D

Well certification not always says what you know, there is people who is very good memorizing stuff, but when the troubleshooting time came on, they dont know what to do and that is the real part of this, you can know all the terms and names of an application, but if you dont know how to make a click between the application, OS, SAN/NAS, ITIL and Network, you will be stuck, because in a high percent of the times when Im troubleshooting something the issue is with something else that is not under Netbackup, so if someone came with a netbackup certication I will start making questions about libraries, drives, OS's, networking, security, Storage and how they can make a relation between all this and Netbackup, from here I will know if he only pass the test or if he realy has the expirience about it and if you see at the Storage Magazine and CIO Magazine, CIO's and CTO's are only taking certification serius when you have more than 5 and I think this is based on what I mention before.

I am certified in 4.5
The U.S. government required certification so I took the tests for UNIX and Windows. I haven't used the certification since then. I don't see any problem with getting certified. In fact, if you are a private contractor, or a reseller, then I would suggest having that piece of paper handy as it may be a requirement for getting the gig. Just think of it as another tool in your mercenary arsenal.
Don't get me wrong. Certification does not prove that you understand or even have a practical knowledge of a NetBackup environment. It just means that you can pass the written test concerning NetBackup.
The environment is NOT NetBackup but also includes various platform administration of HW/OS, fiber, networking, SAN switches, bridges, disk and tape, robot libraries, scripting, etc...

I completely agree. But I also think that it is not bad thing at all.. ;)
Certification were not popular in the pass, old gurus didn't take them at that time and they will always find what to say about certification... :D

c'mon James, now's not the time to turn shy. Tell us what you really think.

Should I consider skipping the test and invest the savings in cleaning tapes?
Which gives more bang for the buck?
My NetBackup 4.5 certification with the nifty lapel pin that says "VERITAS CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL"
......or my DLT cleaning tape? :smileyvery-happy:

Not that it really matters to anyone, but I successfully passed 250-365 exam today. Exam was not very easy, there were a lot of questions about commands and trivia configuration questions.

I think my company's money was well spent. :D
