Netbackup Dedup Initial Seeding through WAN

Created: 03 Sep 2012 | 4 comments

Hi,

I am looking for the Netbackup MSDP replcation through WAN.

Orginial Data Size without deduplication : Approximately 300+ TB

Environment: Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit both Master & Media

Netbackup Version : 7.5.0.3

Remote Location Bandwidth: Below 1 Gbps

So my questions are

1.How much time it will take for initail seeding from local MSDP to remote MSDP replication (AIR configured through SLP) through WAN by considering 12 hours of replication window.

2. Is there any tape out mechanism at the source location & import mechanism at the target location for initail replication?

3. Is there any tool available or any recommendations to achieve this without major impact on bandwidth?

Regards,

Varunesh

With NetBackup 7.5 you can check for Auto Image replication feature (Refer DeDupe guide and search for Auto Image Replication, it has guided method) It would schedule your backup replication from primary site to target site in optimized manner. For inconsistent WAN link NBU 7.5 also came up with new solution called network resiliency just enable it between primary and target media server to connections are intactand are automatically resumed upon link stability

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I have tested AIR feature with sample data, but considering my size around 300+ TB is there any tool or tape out & import process is there for MSDP?

i guess no need of seeding all 300TB . NBU has touch file for pre-fetching seeding info from another policy

this helps CR to avoid scanning entire system and building indexes for DeDupe. To further reduce time in it activate Accelerator , it uses journal
