Raj Says:

As per NetBackup 6.5.3 First Availability (FA) program! we came to know there is some hope of Netbackup allows a user to restore an individual Exchange 2007 Mailbox Message from an Exchange Database backup image. it has also the capability to recover an entire exchange store, an individual mail box or a single item like an email without having to back up Exchange twice. This is as per new features (GRT) of 6.5.3 G.A; But what are ways to restore the single item to restore, is it going to restore from only those which are backed up by 6.5.3 or earlier also like 6.5.2..Second point what is internally happening to take backup/restore of exchange 2007 single item, is it any additional exchange 2007 tool need to install on media server end....? or what does GRT in netbackup technically i want to understand....!!!

Thanks

In case anyone runs into this old post

In case anyone runs into this old post from a search or something, this article has a pretty good in-depth on GRT with Exchange (and caveats), dated Aug, 2009:

http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/netbackup-granular-recovery-technology-tips-and-caveats

Note in NBU 7.0 (and in some cases earlier) that GRT also extends to things like SharePoint, MS-SQL, Active Directory...
