A few Netbackup license questions. Hopefully someone can clear me up. Thanks advance.

1. For enterprise disk, how do we count the data capacity? do we only count the one full backup data or everything we backed up?

2. If we bought SSO license for drives, will we still need standard library based drive license?

3. what kind of license  do we need for "basic disk"? i heard it has been changed to "enterprise disk".

4. what kind of license do we need for "vault"?

5. we use tape drive based encryption but netbackup key management, will we need any license for this?

FelixZohu,

1.  Ent. Disk / Advanced disk / basic disk will be your NBU component or methodology but if it capacity based licencing it all depends on how much data transaction done from client to disk or tape.

2. Yes

3. basic disk / Advanced Disk / Ent. Disk is depend on what NBU version u have

4. i honestly dont know about this

5. if i understand your 5th question correctly then you need MSEO (Media Server Encr. Option)

Before break-up, make sure you have a good backup.....  ;-)

If you're asking about KMS, no additional license is needed.

The NetBackup Key Management Service (KMS) feature is included as part of the NetBackup Enterprise Server and NetBackup Server software. An additional license is not required to use this functionality.

Hi Felix

For Vault you need seperate license (if you are on capacity trend then i believe it is included within, but if on traditional model then additional license is required ,Better sync with your Sales Manager who can analyze and can suggest best licensing suitable and entitlement to your organization

1. For enterprise disk, how do we count the data capacity? do we only count the one full backup data or everything we backed up?

Enterprise disk is based on 'front end capacity'. Count one full backup.

2. If we bought SSO license for drives, will we still need standard library based drive license?

Yes. You need both.

3. what kind of license  do we need for "basic disk"? i heard it has been changed to "enterprise disk".

No additional license for basic disk. Covered with your NBU Server license.
Advanced Disk is now called Enterprise Disk.
You can read up about both options in NBU Admin Guide I.

4. what kind of license do we need for "vault"?

NetBackup Vault Base license is for one master server and 4 tape drives.
For more than 4 drives, you need additional licenses:
either NetBackup Vault Additional Drive
or NetBackup Vault Unlimited Drives

5. we use tape drive based encryption but netbackup key management, will we need any license for this?

As per CRZ's post above - no.

PS: Please engage with your local Symantec reseller about your licensing requirements.
