I plan to upgrade the backup server to new hardware, OS and Netbackup 6.5.4. What is the best procedure for this? Should I install the new server with the same name and restore the Netbackup-catalog to the new server?

I have the following setup:

HP ProLiant DL380 G4
Windows Server 2003 Standard (X86)
Symantec Netbackup 6.5 MP5

This is what I have available for the new server:

HP Proliant DL380 G6
Windows Server 2008 Standard (X64)
Symantec Netbackup 6.5.4

Catalog size ?

I sound like a good way to do it if you're catalog size isn't very large.  You will also need this tech note when performing the catalog restore:

DOCUMENTATION: How to create a blank NetBackup NBDB database for the recovery of the NetBackup NBDB database from an online catalog backup in case of corruption or failure

Some steps are easy overlooked but critical to make the restore work (hence the restore testing).

Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.
