Material !!! Admin Guide is bible for NBU. Go for it..
Generally
You simply need to ensure both NAS filer and NBU is in same network open NDMP port between them
Enable NDMP at filer level
Install NDMP license in NBU (it is licensed feature per active filer)
Configure policy as NDMP and provide path which you want to backup ... For more info read admin guide of NDMP option it has all the details outlined
Cheers !!!

I agree - the NBU for NDMP manual is your friend.
Start with the NDMP Appliance Information Guide: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH31885
It contains a section for all supported NAS filers. Read through the section for the filer that you need to backup.
Then go to NBU for NDMP Guide and read through the introduction chapter to understand the concepts.
The Configuration section tells you how to config devices and create policies.
Supporting Storage Foundation and VCS on Unix and Windows as well as NetBackup on Unix and Windows

1. Authorizing access to the NDMP Host
Before NetBackup can carry out any backup operation, it must have access to the NDMP host. To authorize this access, execute the following command on your master/media server:
<install_path>/volmgr/bin/set_ndmp_attr -auth<ndmp-host>< username> (Solaris)
<install_path>\Volmgr\bin\set_ndmp_attr -auth <ndmp-host> <username> (Windows)
IMPORTANT NOTE: This "ndmp-host" name is case-sensitive. Whenever this host name is used the name must be identical to the name entered here on the set_ndmp_attr command
