Hello House,

I am doing fiirst import of LT03 media and it is hanging with "Media in use" ; "A pending request has been generated for this request , operator action may be required:No action :

-I hope not changing the density of the LT04 drives to hcart3 for use by the LT03 tapes miedia is not responsible for this as this is first import.Even second import do not need this,it is the actual restore of data that requires this .

I may be wrong ,feel free to correct me please house.

I need ti get this fist import and second imprt flying please

Does Initial iport need tape drives to read the image header?

Marianne's picture

NBU can NOT mount a tape into a drive if the densities are different.

Although the hardware supports LTO4 drive reading LTO3 tapes, NBU has no knowledge of this capability. As explained in your other post - media and drive densities in NBU MUST match.
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/reading-lt03-media-lt04-and-lt05-drives

To see why media is listed as 'In Use', check output of :
nbrbutil -dump    (check MDS Allocations at the bottom of the output)

If you know that media is NOT in use, you can release the allocation:
nbrbutil -releaseMDS <mediaKey>

The pase two import is failing with the error below:

INF - Found no images matching the selection criteria that werer ready for phase 2 import.

We have confirm this from the BAR that image data for the client resides on the tape in question.

Please help house.

Grateful for all

We have confirm this from the BAR that image data for the client resides on the tape in question.

Why are you trying to import if the backup information can be seen in BAR?

This means that the images are valid/not expired.

Simply select files/folders that you need to restore and start the restore.

Thanks,

This confirmation was from the backup domain catalogue where the archive was taken.

The problen is with another backup domain catalogue where these media is imported.

Phase 1 results shows successful import of images for various client backups taken between 2008 and 2010.

Phase 2 import selection criteria should include 'all clients' and have start date that goes back to 2008.

Please have a look at this TN and then show us screenshots of your selection criteria when attempting phase 2 import: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH43584

I do see this output that looks like a problem:

19:11:03 INF - Status = extended error status has been encountered, check logs.

19:11:03 INF - Consult the Activity Monitor for more information about this job.

Have you checked Activity Monitor?

Output of commands on source domain does not help with imports on another domain....

(PS: -  I guess the issue of hanging phase 1 import in your opening post was solved? )

Thanks House.

I have confirm that the was a human error somewhere may same tape barcode was reused for another physical media as we all suggested.

I did same for another server  and it worked but discovered that all tapes which the backup image data span must be initially imported in phase 1 import before phase two import can be successful.

-Also phase two import is done on only 1 tape with the backup image. This image does in the backgroud to pull data spanning all other tapes imported in phase 1.

Any further comments is welcome itherwise marked as resolved
