Dears,

I have many backup jobs types, MSSQL, Oracle , Exchange, MS windows Files ... etc.

Is there any recommendation or a documentation how to perform restore strategy which guide to make a test restoring for each backup type to insure that the backup and restore will be done without issues. ex: for MSSQL do restore monthly, for MS windows files do restore weekly.

Is there any best guide or documentation help.

Thanks in advance, regards.

Restore test is a time consume, you can follow the step.

1.build the standard restore procedure,such as file system/MS SQL/Oracle....

2.build the schedule.

3.follow the schedule.

4.renew the restore procedure.

I think it's depend  on your copr policy. If focus  on the oracle database, you can pay more time on it.

From sym

Best Practices:
Symantec strongly recommends the following best practices:

1. Always perform a full DR backup prior to making any changes to your environment.
2. Always make sure that your environment is running the latest version and patch level.
3. Perform periodic "test" restores.
4. Subscribe to technical articles.

we have two method to measure the periodic work.

1 restore test cover rate

if you corporation have 100 client ,and 100% test  in one year. base on the info ,you can know you periodic work.

2 restore toal number.

For example ,you corporation policy define 4 time a month. So you must complete 48 in on year.

3 after some change

If some big change on our backup system, we need focus our change do more test.

There is no such document for test restores.

This point says that restore should be tried periodically to ensure that we have healthy backup.
