Netgear ReadyNAS Share Backup

Created: 22 Apr 2013 | 6 comments

I am trying to figure out a way to back up a few shares from a 6TB Netgear ReadyNAS. I have read through the documentation (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH198175&profileURL=https%3A%2F%2Fsymaccount-profile.symantec.com%2FSSO%2Findex.jsp%3FssoID%3D13666422229089gMWuV9837R1P4Bv1K8HpiQa30Gegz8YYsGl6) that states to set the NetBackup service to run with the same credentials as what is needed to access the shares, but the delima I am facing is the NAS is in a workgroup and not on our domain. I can access the shares just fine if I pass it the local credentials when prompted, but no domain credentials can be set because of these constriants. Does anyone else know of another viable option to back these shares up?

Environment Specs:

Windows Server 2008R2 Master/Media

NetBackup 7.5.4

Just create local user with same user name and same password on both your NAS and the NetBackup client(or server). Then set NetBackup service credentials to this user. Be sure to add this user into local administrators group on the NetBackup host.

I did the above and it still did not resolve the issue. Below is what I am receiving.

To isolate the problem, please log on to usxhqbck with the user you prepared and check if you can access to and copy from this UNC path.

Alright update, so I did as instructed above and when logged in as the local user I can browse to the share via UNC path without mapping a drive or supplying login credentials. This makes it look as if the security is working as should, but when trying to backup the share within NetBackup I receive the job details above.

One thing that i want to reiterate is even though the NAS is on our network it is not on our domain. This in my eyes should not cause within the Windows world, but not sure within NetBackup.

Please try to copy files from UNC share to anywhere else. By job detail posted above, i think NetBackup client can browse files, but could not read files by "WIN32 64" error. Check if you can copy files via CIFS with same user credential,

From UNC path I can add, delete and modify.
