Hi all,

I hope i'm posting this in the correct forum. Currently trying to do a Network Discovery for Network Devices (version 7)
The SNMP public string, allowing NS in the ACL list to read SNMP messages and test segment have been
determined and defined in NS and test network devices.

Upon running a task with ICMP connection profile only, it was able to discover devices but wasn't able to classify
the devices (put as unknown on the console). After i added SNMP, it wasn't able to detect anything else. The task
completed but when i checked the logs, it stated that the task completed with errors but no description of errors.

After the suggestion of Symantec Support, i enabled trace logging thru registry and run the task again with the
following entries in the log:

Discovery started.]]></event>
<event date="Mar 09 07:30:43 +00:00" severity="4" hostName="W07GAMSAP01" source="Altiris.DiscoveryTasks.DiscoveryExec" module="AtrsHost.exe" process="AtrsHost" pid="608" thread="169" tickCount="94347250"><![CDATA[(Run Tomang Test) Phase 1 - Find Devices: 0% complete (task 0% complete).]]></event>

Symantec Support until now cannot and is not able to provide any indication on what is wrong with the task and why it exited due to errors.
Does anyone have encountered this before? Thanks

This is a COM component that we call for network discovery.

It's quite efficient in term of network usage for the scannign however it's a piece of code that was inherited and apparantly it is not producing detailed execptions...

I guess it could be down to snmp configuration or something deep down... But it looks like the discovery process doesn't really starts or get off the ground.

Hi Ludovic,

It seems that way. The question is now why the task exited due to errors and no errors were described? Enabling trace logs also didn't help. I am now trying to enable debug level logging but with no luck. Anyone any ideas? Tech Support also isn't helping due to their unfamiliarity with the issue.

I saw some threads on the DMC forum with the same error messages for Discovery Tasks but with no resolutions at all.

Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks,
