Deployment Solution

We recently installed CMS 7.1 So far we can add computers in to the Computer managment ( a testing lab) and deploy software to them. Our next step is to image a machine. The Machine sucsesfully receives the PXE image from the server and then boots. However if we try an image capture job on the machine it fails and nothing happens. below is a shot from a client machine after it pxe boots.

I've gone over all the steps listed in

But it still looks like I'm missing something.

Ideas and sugestions are welcome.

In the x: prompt ,Navigate to Program files\Altiris\Altiris agent\Logs folder.

Then check for Pectagent.log and Imagecapture.log file which will give you some information on why the image capture is failing.(you may need to map a network drive using net use command to transfer the files)

There is no  imagecapture.log, only the Pecta and Agent logs Below is what the PECTAgent.log had :

I found a user who had very similar (if not identical) problems to my own.

However his isue never received an answer that solved the problem.

I've alo run the Altiris log viewer durring an image capture job and captured all of the traffic. You should be able to open your Altiris log viewer and import it and see the entire session from start to end. Were comming up blank here and not making much progress. Any help would be amazing.

Oh, cajunadmin, I did not have Imagecapture.log either.  I had Agent.log and PECTAgent.log.  Those two put together helped me figure out my problem.

Thanks Joe, I don't think i'm having the same problem though. My client/server seem to be able to communicate. I'm able to send the client commands in the console and it responds and the client is able to ping the server. Looking through my logs i don't see anything that would indicate a communication error. But i'm glad this post has helped someone so far. Now if i could only get my problem worked out...

Symantech Tech support does not seem to have any real ideas forth comming at this point either, their only idea was the rebuild the pxe image which did not resolve the issue. 

I think i finally figure out the problem. In 6.9 DS you use a drive mapping to present a location to store an image and to deploy an imae (generaly in the express folder i believe) I have not found anywhere to do that inside of 7.1 but i found a helpfull articly if anyone experience this in the future.

Bassicly:
"DS 7.1 does not automatically map drive like DS 6.9 does.

Therefore you have two options.

The fact that An Altiris Tech Rep. could not answer this right off the bat scares the hell out of me. I have had a ticket open for 3-4 days and he seems clueless. Hope this post can help someone in the future.
