Hello.

I have just been trying to get the new Altiris 7 Software Portal working but I have ran into an issue.

The agent installs well and the Software Portal link is showing on the desktop as it should.

However, when I try to open this page from a computer it is slow and launches the error "An error prevented the Portal Page from opening".

I have tried to restart both the altiris and the web service.

Anyone who knows how to fix this?

Cheers,

Patrik

Software Management Users Guide

Have you made sure and follow all the steps in the Software Management Solution Users Guide?

It can be found here: http://www.altiris.com/upload/software_mgmt_user_g... and the software portal info starts with chapter 13, page 163.

You need to configure the portal and security settings in addition to installing the portal agent on the client PCs (which it looks like you have already done).

I followed the steps in the guide and am able to connect from the test machines I have set up in our environment.

Which browser are you using?

Hi Patrik,
I'm just curious to know which browser you are using to open the software portal.
Also can you provide the exact error from the log viewer?

Hello. I have tried IE 6.0,

Hello.

I have tried IE 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0.

I can not provide you with information from the logs at this point but if I recall it correctly there wasn't anything useful there.

Cheers,

Patrik

Having the same problem

I am actually having the same problem.  After isntalling the Software Management Solution and following the steps to configure software portal, I get "An error prevented the portal page from opening. Close this page and try again. If this error continues to occur, contact your administrator.
" wihle trying to view the portal in IE 7.

I get 3 errors in my altiris logs:
first:
Log File Name: C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\Logs\a.log
Priority: 1
Date: 6/19/2009 10:10:02 AM

and then two of:

My IIS logs show a serries of 400;2 errors, which should mean a misconfiguration, but I can't tell what would be misconfigured.  I left Software Portal Managers with default privileges.  I have also added myself explicitly to Portal Admins and Portal Managers.  Any ideas?
