  • 1.  New Antivirus install fails to update

    Posted May 07, 2013 02:50 PM

We are running Norton Antivus Corporate Edition on all our desktops. I needed to reformat a hard drive and setup a desktop in which the user caused some drivers issues. The re-installed Antivirus will not update. It tells me that it can't reach the Symantec server. But all other machines which are running the same software, will down new definitions with no problems. Could this be a licensing issue.

Be aware that SAV is end of life. You should upgrade to either SEP 11.x or SEP 12.1, preferably 12.1.

With that being said, is this a managed install? Is it reporting in to the console?

Try updating with the JDB file

It is unmanaged. I searched for an ,xdb file and there doesn't appear to be any, The version is 7.60.926.

    Thanks for your comment.

    To sdcomm:

If your AV product really is NORTON Antivirus Corporate Edition and the version is 7.anything, you may as well not have anything installed at all. Completely unsupported and totally useless in today's threat environment. Even if the client was Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.1.x, as previously mentioned, it has reached end-of-life and is no longer supported.

If you still have a valid support contract, you can install SEP 11.0.7300 or SEP 12.1.2100

Just a reminder to anyone still using SAV: please do upgrade to SEP as soon as possible.  That product is no longer supported.  New definitions have been released for SAV 10.x long after support ended, in order to allow admins ample time to migrate.  These are just a courtesy and can be discontinued at any time.

Please do act now in order to remain protected!
