For computer assets that we have not yet put on our network, we enter them manually in asset management.  We would like a data class that is a date of entry, not necesarily the date it's entered, but the date received.   Can anyone recommend an option for this?  I want to avoid custom fields, but so far, it seems to be the only option.

Comment Field

We have used the Comment tab for similar entries if you are just looking for a place to make a note of the entry date.  But reporting on Comments can be a bit difficult. I know it is not your first choice, but adding a custom Data Class is not too tricky and would be easy to use.

Other than that, you might try somewhere in the PO information if you have that association built.

Custom Data Class

I agree that using the comment tab for reporting can be  tricky, especially when it may be used for other things not related to what you want to track.  I posted an article on creating and populating custom data classes in case you are interested.

I hope some portion of it is useful to you.

Good luck.
