New to Endpoint Encryption - Licensing and install queries

Created: 03 Apr 2013 | 1 comment

Hi

My company is looking at solutions to encrypt the drives on our laptop users and we are investigating at using symantec endpoint encryption. I have a few of questions that I hope someone can help me with.

  1. Am I right in saying that we need to purchase one license per laptop we wish to encrypt? Or is it per user?
  2. Does the server component need to be licensed or is it "free" with the client licenses?
  3. We currently have SEPM installed on a 2008R2 hyper-v. Can we install SEE on the same server? The documention does not seem to say if hyper-v is supported or if it can be co-located with another symantec product.

Thanks in advance for any help

Hope these help wink

  1. Per device IIRC
  2. The server component is free, and you can install as many as you want.
  3. I know of no articles to suggest they cannot be installed on the same box, as long as you ensure the sites are separate and running on different ports there should be no issue.  The SEE Management Server does not use either Tomcat nor Apache so in theory, should not conflict with the SEPM's components.  Also, see the comments from one of the SEP guys in the below forum:
