I have GSS 2.5 and I need some assistance with the application. I have a Windows 2008 R2 server and I have the 11.5x console installed. I am trying to copy an image of my Target XP computer so I can build new workstations with the image. I have created a task in the console to create an image utilizing sysprep. When I execute the task, the server is able to contact my xp machine but it keeps displaying the "polling for bound server" message. This eventually stops and my xp machine reboots. The machine never completes the start-up because it gets an error that it can't complete because it can't write to the registry. I have checked the task event log and all items are successful (copying files, boot to the virtual portion, etc). The last item in the event log is the sysprep and it says failed due to time out. I have tried a few things suggested such as updating McAfee rules, getting the latest drivers but I am still having trouble. It could be possible that I have missed some steps because this is a new product to me. To summarize my steps, here is what I have done: 1) Created a task to create an xp image. I'm pretty sure I did this correctly because I followed the steps in the Symentec tutorial video. 2) Installed the client on my xp machine. 3) Executed the task. Any assistance provided will be greatly appreciated.

    1. Turn off all firewalls on the client including any and all mcAfee firewall, network security, etc. disable simple file sharing in folder options in windows.

    2. Try running the Win XP  Image Create Task alone without sysprep. Just ignore that tab altogether. We never use sysprep in labs all the 6 years I have been here. Instead we use the tools that are built into the ghost console to automate most configurations

    • Ghostwalker to change the SID (which is just a check box in the Clone tab of an image task)
    • Configure to re-name computers ,join domain or workgroup, network settings, etc. automatically    (all included in 1 image task)

    2. Turn off all firewalls on the client including any and all mcAfee firewall network security

    3. disable simple file sharing in windows folder options

    4. Verify the console is using the correct NIC driver for your client machine.

Start wit those steps and let us know...

I have tried the recommended steps above and I'm still getting the polling error. I need to try to get the appropriate Vista 32 drivers for 3com to see if that is my issue. I'm not sure what you mean by the following because there isn't a clone selection when I do a create image task. Am I missing something? "Ghostwalker to change the SID (which is just a check box in the Clone tab of an image task) Configure to re-name computers ,join domain or workgroup, network settings, etc. automatically    (all included in 1 image task)"

the polling error usually means you have no network connection inside the PE.  You need the VISTA 32bit drivers for the Ghost PE.  Remember to check the box to add them into the image after you add them to the  drivers list.  If you run IPCONFIG inside the PE, do you have a network adapter at all?

No, I don't have any adapters when I do an ipconfig within PE. I am using 3com 3cr990b-fx-97 fiber nic and it doesn't have any Vista drivers. Is there another alternative?

You have a fiber NIC in your XP workstation??

You could try Server 2003 drivers if these are an option.

I ended up using PCDOS with the updated Intel DOS drivers that were posted on this site   and I was able to create an image. I also had to turn off McAfee.
