New Java Update FYI

JRE 1.6 Update 10 was released this week.

Do not replace your current version with this one on any system with the SEPM manager console installed.  Seems to be some sort of incompatibility that keeps the console application from starting.  Might be a programming issue or it could just be a permissions issue with the new JRE.  To this point, I haven't been able to get it to work, so on the two systems I have the console installed on (SEPM server and an admin workstation) I have installed 1.6U10 and kept 1.6U7, making certain that the SEPM console shortcuts still point to the U7 runtime executable.

Hope this may keep others from having a conniption.

Thanks for the heads up.

This is going to make things more interesting in the next few weeks.

My updates are on manual for all servers now.

Yeah, I found that out yesterday afternoon.  It wasn't the only issue we had with Update 10, though.  It broke a fair amount of stuff, mostly some vendor/core banking apps.  Thankfully we have a decent change control procedure in place :smileywink:

years ago after rebooting a server a Java cert expired months before and was only looked at upon startup.

My APC software went bezerk and alost froze the machine up. and figuring it out on a machine that felt like a 486 with xp on it did not help. After numerous rebbots and finally rebuilding it only to findout it was still broke, I then searched every software vendor that we installed, I found a tech brief on APC web site about it.

Kind makes you wonder whats around the corner.

Java set to update automatically on one of my servers...worked absolutely fine with SEP Manager (Mr3) installed

So I tried the same on couple of more servers which are all Windows Server 2003 SP2... Looks like Symantec has taken care of the same... :D at least for Windows Server 2003 SP2 as I have tested .. Not sure if this darrring move/ experiment works on other OS (s)... :smileyindifferent:

As i say always ... worked for me .. to be tried on one's own peril ... ;)
