I am not a fan of the new Touchdown interface. Is there a way to revert to the old one?

I second that. Just did the update this afternoon. When I finally got the update to work I was very unhappy with the new UI. I too want to go back. The version that I am on is 9.0.00407.  Please tell me there's a way to do that.

While I don't hate the new UI I can't say I'm completely happy with it.  Change always takes a bit of time to adjust to so for everyone.  However, I cannot stand and don't see every liking the large circle on the left hand side of my mail with whatever alpha-numeric letter in it.  It takes up 1/10 of the screen and I want it gone.

Please tell me there is a way to disable it.

Go into Touchdown settings; email; selector as circle, and uncheck it.

From what I've read everyone agrees it's horrible. Search Google for "touchdown for smartphones 8.5 apk". You can find any number of places to find the old version.

Also, if anyone from Symantec reads these - this biggest frustration is not that the the UI is bad. It's that you pushed it on Play with no warning that anything was changing. Mid day I open email and it's all different. I havereal work to do during g the day. Time to relearn how to use my email is not planned for. F for customer focus!

    Peter,

I must congratulate your team for the continous  improvement and it is now close to the good old Touchdown which we all used to love.

    Following issues which please clarify

    1. How to forward a message with attachments. Even after the attachment has been downloaded and viewed still it does not get transmitted with forwarded message. I tried clicking the paperclip Icon before sending and it turns by 90 degree but still the file did not get transmitted.

    2. Old TD  had an option of scanning /capturing business card for creating new contact. This used to work if you have a card scanning app like camcardloaded loaded in the device. This allowed direct contact creation in TD. Any chance of return of this feature.

Actually, besides not liking the new UI, since it was updated yesterday I have spent many hours to try to get it to work. I have been getting "Push Suspended, too many timeouts in one minute". Found a few posts on that issue and tried all the suggestions. I tried reinstalling 5 times. It works for about 5 to 10 minutes and then I get that message. I have been using Touchdown from day 1(maybe 7 years already) and only had a few minor issues. Since yesterday, I tried a few other mail clients. "Nine" seems OK but I think I would prefer going back to Touchdown 8.5. Maybe part of this is "you can't teach old dogs new tricks" but that version did everything I needed and it  did it well. I would have given the new UI a chance but I can't get it to work at all.

How do I insure that the 8.5 APK I download is not riddled with garbage?

I love the idea of continue update product, but who tested, the new interface is very bad, of you change the themes, you will find blue text over dark grey background, IMPOSSIBLE to read.

Also, I cannot understand why the comapnay "Symantec" remove existing features, like card scanning app like camcardloaded loaded in the device, I hope this feature will come back

BTW, the new email icon on the statusbar, small white envelop, is horrible, lock like dust in the screen

wow....yet again a good product is "taken over" and ruined.

how could your UX guys screw this app up so badly????

As a paid licensed user i'd like to know apart from potentially downloading a corrupt version off some other site apart from googleplay how do i download an official "older version"?  or are you basically saying we are SOL and have to risk our security even though we paid for licenses?

My top priority is to get he delete button in individual email view back on the bottom of the screen, where my fingers can reach it without moving my hands. Right now the bottom just has up/down, reply, reply all and forward, none of which are useful as a I through reading and deleting large numbers of notification messages. Now I have to move my hand up to reach the delete button. If this can be changed in settings, haven't figured it out yet. Do the developers actually use Touchdown for high volume mail?

Agree Duncan, also dont understand why they removed the ability to select "junk" was one of the best Touchdown features and now its gone.

i've been reading on the Android mailing lists lots of people feel Symantec screwed up royally here.

    Hi,

To address some of the concerns- we do have the .apk available upon request, although you need to email into touchdown-support@symantec.com for it.

Sandeep, as far as forwarding goes, let's troubleshoot that in the support queue, I'd like to get some logs to see what's going on. The camcard functionality was a legacy piece of functionality that we are currently looking at restoring, although thus far it appears it might not be happening due to some limitations we've run into.

I am back to version 8.5 and all is working well. As the above post states, just send an email to touchdown-support@symantec.com and they will send you a link to download. With that bit of grief -  I do want to at least acknowledge Symantec for the quick response, thank you.

Now, a bit off topic, Sandeep, can you explain the camcard functionality? Was that still supported in TD 8.5?

thanks Bobnosko, i also got sent the 8.5apk but havent installed it yet as crazy busy.

Whats the process for installing it? any hiccups? did you need to reconfigure server settings etc or just painless point and click install.

With 8.5 you'll want to uninstall prior, as you can't update to a previous version.

As many of you I have been a satisfied user of the Touchdown for smartphones app for several years.

However after the latest update to version 9.0.00412 I’m having serious troubles whereas the overhaul to the new design is a complete disaster as far I'm concerned.

    Technical issues

The app is utterly slow. It takes second before contacts, emails or tasks appear.

The calendar part of the app doesn't function at all. I get an almost blank screen. After this Touchdown freezes and so does my phone. I have to end the app manually by Android’s task manager or sometimes even to restart my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5)

I don't want to be too harsh, but in my experience Touchdown at the moment is crap. What has happened with my beloved Touchdown?

    User interface and colour schemes

As I've already indicated, the new design is a complete disaster as far as I'm concerned.

Why did the location of buttons have to change? Why on earth are we convicted to these childish colours and themes.

As a colour blind male it is very difficult for me to see the difference between the background colours and the colours of the buttons. The only exception is the blue coloured scheme, but that one is so ugly it hurts the eyes, apart from not being very business-like. I'm a consultant and not an addict to some sort of gameboy.

    My request

Please fix these technical issues asap. Otherwise the app is useless for me and I will choose another app for this purpose. I read comments from satisfied users of Nine and this seems to be a perfect replacement.

Nonetheless I would prefer sticking to Touchdown.

Furthermore please return to the former UI, or at least give us the opportunity to choose the former UI ourselves.

If that's not possible from a commercial point of view please give users the opportunity to choose the colours of background and buttons in a much broader variety, so that colour blinds like me can choose their own scheme or settings.

    Hi,

Marc also contacted the support queue and I gave him the build, but I saw something that I wanted to let you guys know about- Bloated databases. When you upgrade Touchdown to the new build, and you've been syncing 1000 days of email, etc, Touchdown is already dealing with a massive database, and will likely be showing some performance issues. Upgrading on top of that causes even more faults, so my recommendation is reducing your sync value, or rerunning quick configuration completely, which will reset the database to a more reasonable level. For finding older email, we recommend utilizing server search, and for the calendar sync value- that refers to past events. Future events will automatically populate over Activesync.

    Posted Aug 31, 2016 12:20 PM

    Hi Peter,

Could you explain your comment reg. the 1000 days of e-mail syncs?

In my case the value was 14 days, although the calendar setting was "always". I understand from your comment that this setting refers to historical appointments and not to future appointments, which will always be synchronized?

What do you mean by "rerunning quick configuration completely"? Deleting your account in TD and configuring TD from scratch?

On this forum I saw quite some comments on the issues I mentioned. How is Symantec going to react? It's version 9 to be revised? Will there be more possibilities to changes the colours and fonts?

When and how will we know that (some of) these issues have been addressed? Otherwise Android will signal constantly that I need to update TD, which of course I will not do as long as these issues are not addressed.

And how could this storm happen? Has version 9 been tested among beta testers?

Anyhow, thanks for your quick response!

    Best regards,

    Marc

    Hi,

In the case of calendar history, yes- it refers to past appointments, which can cause serious database bloat and performance problems.

9.0 was tested extensively during a several month long open beta, actually, as well as with lots of internal users. The release corrisponded with a Samsung webview update which caused a number of serious issues both for 8.5 and 9.0, although users largely blamed the 9.0 release for the issues- however Samsung has since released a fix.

The dev team is working as quickly as they can to get through the feature requests and bug fixes, although there are a number of very difficult problems with this and other products they are working on, so I can't give a precise timeline at this time.

    Hello,

I use TouchDown app quite long time but after layout change I cannot find few things. One of them is that I don't know how can I look up contact in Global Address Book. The button is gone. Could you help me?

And second question> Is possible to say TouchDown that it will regularly copy contacts from Global Address Book with some attributes from AD. I'll appreciate if I can have synced contacts only from departments which I communicate to.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards Tomas

    Hi,

Just tapping search will initiate a GAL search. As for second issue, are you syncing the suggested contacts folder?

I have my prefs set to not delete from server. So if I delete, I understand that the mail will not be sent to the deleted emails folder on the server. But is there any way to undo, or any place to find an email that I might accidently deleted on Touchdown? (yes, I could find it on the server inbox and send to the inbox again, but looking to do so on phone)

also, swipe to delete is swipe left, but on two other email apps, delete is swipe right. Any chance to include a pref to allow a choice so I can be consistent?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Unfortunately no, if that setting is enabled.

As for the swipe option, I'll pass on the feature request- it may or may not be possible.

Agree with above. I was not impressed with these changes to the UI and functionality. I'm not usually against changes to my apps, even unannounced ones if it is actually for the better. This case was not warranted and it not an improvement.

I need to archive my emails as I am done reading them (zero Inbox concept as some would know). Most other email clients offer the option to Swipe to 'Archive'. I am not able to find it in Touchdown settings. It only give 'Mark/Unmark' and 'Delete'. If someone can pls guide.

Sorry, but archiving isn't supported by Activesync, so Touchdown can't do it.
