    Hello,

Is there a new Liveupdate Administrator who will come out soon ?

The actual 2.2.1 is buggy, very heavy (cpu/mem usage...)...and very slow for just downloading/copying files...Don't you think ?

    Hi,

As of now this is the latest version. As far as the speed goes there are various features integrated in this product as requested by the customers which might consume some CPU usage. As far as the downloading speed is concerned I think you would also agree to me that it varies with different ISP's.

    Hi Ouhlala,

Most LUA 2.2 implementations can see a noticable performance improvement after their PostgreSQL databases are tuned.  By default, the LUA's PostgreSQL is configured to work on as many platforms as possible.  Changing its setitngs to reflect the capabilities of your server should help.

Here's a KB with some recommendations:

Tuning LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x's PostgreSQL Database

    Bes of luck!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

For a quick introduction to LUA 2.2, I recommend the Symantec LiveUpdate™ Administrator 2.2 Getting Started Guide.  It's on the SEP product CD, or you can download a copy from http://www.symantec.com/business/support/documentation.jsp?language=english&view=manuals&pid=54619

Full details may be found in the Symantec LiveUpdate™ Administrator 2.2 User's Guide, which is available from the same location.

Another alternative to consider, if you're designing or administering a pure-SEP environment, is to use SEP's uilt-in GUP (Group Update Provider) capabilities.  See Top 10 Symantec Best Practices - Deploying Symantec Endpoint Protection Architecture for details.  If content from a wider range of proucts needs to be downloaded (mixed SAV and SEP environment, plus Scan Engine and SAVfL for instance) then a tool like LUA 2.2 may be best.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick
