This issue has been solved. See solution.

I hope somebody can help - When i try to login to the SEPM 12.1 console the Home, Monitors, and Reports sections are not displaying any information.  I can make changes to policy, clients, and admin. I also get the "unexpected server error 0x10010000" error.

I have read numerous posts on different issues but none of them has resolved my problem.

e.g http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH104777

1) Java version - I have uninstalled Java V6 Update 29 and let SEP install the native Update 24

2) Ports; - I have made sure that all the ports are open on the firewall of the machine. The ports list shows that the correct ones are open.

3) The loclhost address & loopback is working

4) SQL authentication - Set to native SQL, tried windows authentication - no luck

5) RDP - I am administering the machine locally - not using remote desktop

6) User - As I am busy with the installation I am logged in as Administrator

7) Repairing and/or reinstalling SEPM - I tried this 5 times already each time making sure I start from scratch

8) IIS issues - many of the procedures detail issues with IIS - as SEPM12.1 runs apache I uninstalled IIS from the machine.

System Detail:

I am running Windows XP SP3 with SQL server express 2008 advanced edition.

SEPM12.1 is installed on the same box. - All ports are left at the default install values.

IIS is no longer installed as SEP12.1 uses apache

Issues:

ODBC - I have not been able to verify the ODBC settings. It seems like SEPM12.1 does not create the required ODBC DSN (SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN) as mentioned in "http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH104777"

I have tried to create the DSN but I am not sure which driver to use  - there are however no ODBC related errors in the logs - is this still used? Which driver should be used for the ODBC connection?

PHP - I have executed the checks listed in "http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH104777

Version - I have checked the PHP version (5.3.4) the same as in the php.ini file. However when I try to use "http//localhost:8014/Reporting/phpinfo.php" to check the operation in a browser I get the message:' "Forbidden. The request will not be fulfilled" together with the Symantec banner.

I have enabled PHP logging and I get the following error messages in the reporting.log file

[30-Oct-2011 10:53:14] PHP Warning:  require(Include/resources/reporter.php) [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\Reporting\Reports\sr-login.php on line 6
[30-Oct-2011 10:53:14] PHP Fatal error:  require() [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required 'Include/resources/reporter.php' (include_path='.;C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\Reporting;C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Php') in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\Reporting\Reports\sr-login.php on line 6

Also when using https://localhost:8445/Reporting/login/Login_verify.php to check PHP I get the following error message:

Warning: require_once(Include/resources/reporter.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\Reporting\Login\curl_funcs.php on line 5

Warning: require_once() [function.require-once]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'Europe/Helsinki' for '2.0/no DST' instead in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\Reporting\Login\curl_funcs.php on line 5

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'Include/resources/reporter.php' (include_path='.;C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\Reporting;C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Php') in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\Reporting\Login\curl_funcs.php on line 5

When I open the file sr-login.php it refers to curl-funcs.php which refers to reports.php which referes to file called reporter.php - I cannot find this file on the system.

Any help to resolve my issue is greatly appreciated

I have also enabled PHP logging

Hi Rafeeq

I tried to connect from a different machine but I get the same error message and symptoms.  The website complains about the certificate when it opens. I have added the site to the trusted sites under IE to see if that resolves the problem and changed security levels to the lowest possible but the error and symptoms remain. (BTW I am using IE 8 on XP)

Can it be due to a problem with the server certificate?

I also upgraded 10 12.1 RU1.

I also upgraded 10 12.1 RU1. I have had the same symtoms. We have a dedicated SQL-Server with several other databases. I detected preformance issues.  After resolving dashboard, monitor and Report appeared again.  in the network monitor you can see there is high traffic to sql server. we have around 10000 clients.

There are a number of files

There are a number of files in the directory but none of the files have a .php extension. I have made a screen dump of the directory contents and attached it below. The .php files seem to be placed in "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\Reporting\Reports". I have also attached a directory listing of this

Hi Ajit The platform is

Hi Ajit

The platform is Windows XP with SP3. The SEPM with its data base etc is installed on the same machine. The AV server is separate from the domain controller (Windows Small business server 2008 environment) and other server functions - this machine only services the AV clients - there are only 15 clients in the system. The screen shot is given below

Hi,

You are facing this problem because the user account being used was not able to authenticate to the external SQL database. Please add the user account to your SQL server using which you are able to connect to the SQL database used by SEPM 12.1.

Please check with which authontication you are able to pass OBBC connection.

To check ODBC connection go through following article:

Verifying the connection with the database:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO55031

Also, Check if you have Space character in the user name of administrator owning reports?

I am logged in as the

I am logged in as the Administrator for the SEPM machine. This user is listed in the SQL server managment studio as a valid user. I can log onto the SQL server with the managment studio using both Windows Authenitication (Using Administrator) and with SQL server authentication using "sa" as the user. This user was not listed under User Mapping to use SEM5. (See attached screen dump).

There is no ODBC connection configured with the name SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN. I then try to create this DSN but I am not sure which driver to use - the article (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO55031) does not state which type to use - I try to use the SQL native client but the setup steps does not match the description in the referenced article. (e.g. SQL Server, SQL Native Client 10.0 or SQL Anywhere 11). The only driver that seems to match the description in the article is the SQL native client driver. I perform the rest of the steps and I the ODBC connection tests OK. This still does not correct the problem.

The password for the adminsitrator user does not contain a space but it does contain a special character (!)

Seems to me that Symantec has

Seems to me that Symantec has no idea on this one.

Over and over I see this:
>>

You are facing this problem because the user account being used was not able to authenticate to the external SQL database. Please add the user account to your SQL server using which you are able to connect to the SQL database used by SEPM 12.1.<<

and yet especially in our case, that is NOT, repeat, NOT the issue. It's NOT a SQL authentication issue! One management server connects, 11.xx connected just fine. It happened during a SEPM ugprade to 12.1

One server now will not allow a full console connection, the other will. When I launch the console directed at SEPM1, it connects and works fine. When I launch a console pointed to SEPM2, it fails with the errorcode.

IT's not a user issue - we use SQL user, NOT Windows authentication, and the user is a local administrator and a DBA. It broke only during the upgrade, so it's not a SQL user or authentication issue.

I'm seeing a lot of these issues, mostly unresolved.

It's cost me nearly a week of work here so far, and we're really hosed. May have to start all over from scratch, build another new server and reinstall everything.

The upgrade to SEPM 12.1 really messed us up badly.

There seems to be no help

There seems to be no help forthcoming from Symantec - They have released a new version (RU1) that I am trying to download and install and the only other remaining option is to start from scratch with an install on a new machine -

With this level of support and trouble I am seriously considering to move to a competitor's product when my licenses with Symantec expires.

I have opened a case with support but they also seem to be stumped.

I am missing the Symantec DSN (Some other reports states that it is no longer required) and the guy from tech support cannot understand that it is not installed and also cannot tell me how to fix it -

My license and support expires in May and it looks like I will have to look for a competetor's product

After a long process with the

After a long process with the support team (They could not or did not want to assist to create the ODBC item) I had to uninstall SEPM yet again - they sent me the latest version of their CleanWipe utility and I ran this to clean up the system from all their old installation garbage.

I then re-installed using the default settings with the embedded database (Previously this did not work hence my whole excursion into the SQL database). My installation now works.

The system created the ODBC connection that I was missing. It is frustrating that they could not tell me how to create the ODBC connection manually

Maybe this information is useful to somebody else:

Driver Type: SQL Anywhere 11.0

The rest of the settings looks like they describe in their howto

cant use Internet connection on Symantec server

I am using Sepm 12.1

Due to security reasons , i cant use internet connection on the symantec server. Hence I cannot use Live Update Method to download virus definitions and security updates for the server

So How can I download virus definitions and security updates on a seperate machine and then tranfer these updates on the symantec server which can then be pushed to the clients.
