    Quick server hardware ?.

I'm using altiris DS 6.9 sp1 for pushing & pulling images and for software distribution for approximately 200 clients over the network. I'm on Dells website and had a few questions about hardware specs. Should I be concentrating on any specific hardware configurations for maximum performance.. Higher processor? More memory? or faster hard drives...? I guess my question is that would I be wasting $$'s if I purchase a server with a top of the line processor or 15k hard drives. Obviously top of the line is better, but does it make a difference for my specific use of this server.

I've been out of the server hardware loop for the last couple years and noticed that there's a lot to choose from.
    Thanks,
    John

Memory never hurts. Unless you plan on expanding to tons and tons of hardware and imaging lots and lots of machines at the same time 10K drives should be fine. In my opinion, processor isn't as important as disk and memory. I would go middle of the road depending on the amount of apps that you plan on loading in the future on that server.

I've only done it in a test environment. It all depends on how much traffic you expect to have and how many other VM's you have running on that box as well. My production box is on it's own blade and connected to a SAN (approximately 450 users in 11 sites). That blade also hosts the SQL server and NS.

John, what's the current configuration of your server?
