New Software Bulletin Notification
Updated: 28 Jul 2010 | 7 comments
Hi,
Does this default notification work for anybody?
I've had it enabled since day one, and have never received an email saying there are new bulletins to download.
All other Notifications work correctly, so this is not an email issue.

It didn't work for me, so I hacked it a bit. It still doesn't work....
Guess I should take another on a fresh install to see why it wasn't working! ;-)

Come to think of it..
In all my setups of Patch 6, I don't think I've ever seen this notification policy return an email.
I"ve always subscribed to Altiris KB21897 (for v6) and the new Altiris KB46252 (for v7) to get that notification.

FYI: I had to bump my TimeValue parameter all the way up to 96 hours in order to get an e-mail from that "Test Notification Policy" button. However, have yet to confirm whether the policy will automatically fire off an e-mail to me the next time MS releases updates. Figured was good time to test because Patch Mgmt didn't show MS10-002 yesterday but did today although I got no message with my TimeValue previously at 72 hours.
I'm thinking my TimeValue could be a bit smaller since my pmimport occurs AFTER my new bulletin check but what still isn't clear to me is why I have to put in such a large value when the patch was released just the day before? You'd think 24 to 48 hours should cover it but even at 72 hours, I never got an e-mail alert. Luckily this issue isn't critical where jharings' comment on subscribing to the appropriate Altiris KB is actually a good suggestion.

FYI: After setting my TimeValue parameter to "96", I got 2 automatic e-mail messages (1/day) for MS10-002. Just can't seem to make any sense here as to what's happening.
