Howdy all,

I am a newbie to Altiris and have been trying to find procedures to backup the helpdesk before I start editing it. I have many helpful ideas on editing the helpdesk but I don't know what to back up yet. Everything I find says back up before I proceed but I don't want to miss anything.

Thanks for any help

Backup Helpdesk

Well this isn't the Official way, but here's what I do.

I make sure I have a good backup of the Altiris_Incidents database on your server, then I backup the entire "Helpdesk" folder that is located under "C:\program files\altiris"

It really depends on what type of information you're editing, but that should cover it.

Reg files too

I would grab all of the export of the registry from
HKLM\SOFWTARE\ALTIRIS.

Backup Help Desk

In our organization, we start by exporting all the rules, categories, and all settings under the ADMIN menu. Also, we copy all our server files that have our customizations: d$\Altiris\Helpdesk\AeXHD\templates

Then we pull a disk from our mirrored drives so we can always go back to that in a pinch. In addition, we have a back up the database in case we need to overwrite a specific table.
