Newly Discovered Software missing software titles

Created: 01 Feb 2013 | 2 comments

I run both hardware and software inventories on all of my PCs and a Delta update to both, however in the Newly Discoverd Software filter, Windows Internet Explore 9 is missing.  I have searched through the Resources Software and not found it either.  How do I get IE 9 to show as a software resource?

I concur that IE9 is nowhere to be found beyond generating an Audit Software Search report using filename "iexplore.exe" and version "9.%". If creating a custom filter using this criteria doesn't work for ya, I'd open up a case with Symantec tech support.  Perhaps they have a pointfix rollup that addresses this issue.

IE6 ships with XP and therefore does not show as part of inventory; it's the same for IE8.  I can't comment on why IE9 isn't appearing, but that's mostly because I use a custom inventory for IE browser version because of this quirk.  (Because Microsoft includes IE6/IE8 by default, it's not an installed application -- it's just an ever-present OS component.)

Check out this download for a sample custom inventory for IE9:
