Hello,
I' m using backup exec 12.5 on a sbs 2008. I have an hp dat 72 gb. When I try to backup it works but be doesn't use compression. I tried both hardware and software compression but the result is the same. I used hp tools to test compression and evething goes well. I put compression on, I verify it is enabled looking in the tape properties, then after running be  if I go to the tape properties I see compression disabled.
Anyone can help me? At least to obtain software compression...

Are you using HP's or

Are you using HP's or Symantec's device drivers? If HP's, try using Symantec's drivers.

You can install Symantec device drivers from Tools-Wizards-Device configuration wizard.

Howzit, You won't always get

Howzit,

You won't always get compression. It depends a lot on what you're already backing up. If you're backing up compressed files, they won't get compressed when written to tape. Something to consider.
You can test this by taking a number of uncompressed file types and running a backup. You can also verify this by using NTbackup to see if there is compression there. If not, that's the best you will get.

Laters!
