So this is for one user, not all?

Have a look in the VAC to see if they are suspended from archiving, and have a look in the VAC to see if they are disabled from archiving.

Does the user have a mailbox quota? Are they over the quota limit?

Many Thanks,

Rob

Yep no problem ...

Suspended:

Go to the VAC, and right click on 'Exchange' under 'Targets' and select 'Display Policies assigned to users'...  you'll see a column of data returned called 'Archiving Suspended'.

Disabled:

There are a few ways.. One way is to run the 'Enable User' wizard, and see if the user shows up.  Be sure to select the radio button indicated below:

You might also want to run a trace from the client machine.

The log file may also indicate why the buttons have gone...

Many Thanks,

Rob
